Music shop staff run half marathon to fund pTrumpets for charity
Staff from a music shop in Wales ran a half marathon to enable music education opportunities on the other side of the world.
Three staff and one family member from Pencerdd Music, Penarth ran the Cardiff half marathon to raise money for the Patagonia Instrument Project, a charity set up by a group of players from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) after touring in the region.
The Patagonia Instrument Project works to provide youth groups and schools in Patagonia with musical instruments and resources for teachers who, due to financial constraints or lack of availability, would not otherwise have access.
With the money they raised, the team from Pencerdd Music bought seven pTrumpets to donate to the charity.
The players from BBC NOW witnessed how most of the schools they visited had no instrument resources at all – and Chris Stock, Principal Percussionist of BBC NOW, set about changing this.
Chris said, “Knowing that the instruments we send to Patagonia have such an impact on people’s lives and can genuinely transform music education in classrooms there continues to motivate us. The efforts of Phil and the team at Pencerdd are fantastic and we are so grateful for their contribution, continued support and encouragement.”
WMG have donated an extra two pTrumpets to Pencerdd Music for the cause.
Steven Greenall, CEO of WMG said, “When we heard about the team at Pencerdd Music’s efforts to fund instruments for such a great cause we were inspired. We were happy to be able to donate a couple of extra instruments, supported by our UK distributor John Hornby Skewes, to the Patagonia Instrument Project, as part of our ongoing commitment to music education worldwide. We hope that the pTrumpets help to inspire some budding young brass players over in South America.”
